2026 U.S. Renovation Cost Index

State-adjusted 2026 renovation cost ranges for 17 project types across all 50 U.S. states. Mid-range, medium-size project totals including labor (50%), materials (35%), permits (5%), and a 10% contingency. Free to use under CC-BY 4.0 attribution.

Methodology

Per-project base ranges sourced from BLS labor data, Remodeling Magazine Cost vs Value 2024–2026 reports, HomeAdvisor pricing benchmarks, and manufacturer MSRP. State multipliers derived from a composite cost index combining trade-labor rates, permit-fee surveys, and material logistics distance. Quality tier multipliers (1.0× / 1.3× / 2.2×) reflect typical builder-grade → premium scope spread. Subtotal is split into labor / materials / permits (50 / 35 / 5%), with 10% contingency added on top. See the full methodology page for sources and update cadence.
