Privacy Policy.

Plain-English summary of what HavenCostGuide collects, how we use it, and the specific controls you have over your data. We don't sell personal information, we don't track you across the open web, and we don't share your email with advertisers — ever.

TL;DR

  • Calculators run client-side. Your inputs never reach our servers unless you submit the email form.
  • If you submit your email, we store it to send you the breakdown + a 3-touch nurture series. You can unsubscribe with one click from any email.
  • Anonymous traffic analytics via Google Analytics 4 (IP anonymization on). No cross-site advertising cookies.
  • No sale of personal data. Ever.

1. What we collect

1.1 Information you give us directly

  • Email + name: when you submit a cost estimate or run the bundle estimator and ask us to email the breakdown.
  • Project details: state, project type, scope, material tier, and the cost ranges produced by our calculators. We store these so we can send you a relevant follow-up shortlist of contractors.
  • Free-form notes: anything you type in a contact form's message field.

1.2 Information collected automatically

  • IP-based state detection: when you visit, we make a one-time lookup of your approximate state (via a public IP-geo service) so we can show state-relevant pricing. We don't store the IP itself.
  • Anonymous analytics: page views, referrer, device type, and session-level interaction data via Google Analytics 4 with IP anonymization enabled. GA4 cookies are first-party and respect your browser's Do Not Track setting.
  • 404 / error reports: when a page fails to load, we record the missing URL so we can fix broken links. No personal information is captured.

1.3 Information we do NOT collect

  • Payment information (we don't sell anything).
  • Social security numbers, government IDs, or financial-institution credentials.
  • Cross-site behavioral tracking. We don't drop third-party advertising cookies.

2. How we use your data

  • To send you the calculator breakdown + the 3-touch nurture series (welcome, project-specific tips, optional contractor shortlist) you opted into.
  • To trigger the Full-Home Renovation Snapshot PDF when you submit both the indoor and outdoor bundle estimators with the same email.
  • To improve our calculator accuracy by anonymizing and aggregating project-cost submissions across users.
  • To diagnose broken pages and improve site performance.
  • To respond to messages you send us through the contact form.

3. Who we share data with

We share specific data with three categories of service providers, each under their own GDPR/CCPA-compliant data-processing agreement:

  • Email delivery (Resend): email address + project type, used solely to deliver your opted-in emails.
  • Anonymous analytics (Google Analytics 4): aggregated page-view data with IP anonymization on. GA never receives your email or project details.
  • Hosting + database (MongoDB Atlas): encrypted at rest. We are the only party with access to lead records.

We never sell, rent, or trade personal information to third parties. We disclose data only when legally required to do so (subpoena, court order, or fraud investigation) and we will notify affected users unless legally prohibited.

4. Your rights

Regardless of where you live, you can:

  • Access: request a copy of all data we hold about you.
  • Correct: ask us to update any inaccurate information.
  • Delete: request permanent deletion of your record (we process within 30 days).
  • Unsubscribe: one-click unsubscribe from any email we send.
  • Opt out of analytics: install a browser-level GA4 opt-out, or enable Do Not Track — we honor it.

4.1 California residents (CCPA)

California residents have additional rights under the CCPA: the right to know the specific pieces of personal information we have collected, the right to know the categories of third parties with whom we share that information (listed in section 3 above), and the right to opt out of any "sale" of personal information. We do not sell personal information.

4.2 EU / UK residents (GDPR)

Our lawful basis for processing is your consent (via the form opt-in) and our legitimate interest in improving the service (for anonymous analytics). You may withdraw consent at any time using the unsubscribe link.

5. Cookies and tracking

We use a minimal set of first-party cookies:

  • Google Analytics 4 (_ga, _ga_*): anonymous traffic measurement. 13-month retention.
  • Session preferences: state code (so we don't re-fetch your state every visit), theme preference. Local storage, not server-tracked.

We do not use re-marketing pixels, advertising-network cookies, Facebook Pixel, or any cross-site tracking technology.

6. Children's privacy

HavenCostGuide is intended for homeowners and homebuyers — typically 25+. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a minor has submitted information, email privacy@havencostguide.com and we will delete the record.

7. Data retention

  • Lead records (email + project data): 24 months from last interaction, then auto-deleted unless you re-engage.
  • Analytics aggregates: 13 months in GA4, then auto-purged.
  • Logs: 30 days, used for security and debugging only.

8. Security

All data is transmitted over HTTPS (TLS 1.2+) and stored encrypted at rest in MongoDB Atlas. Administrative access is gated behind a bearer-token authentication system limited to authorized HavenCostGuide staff. We have not had a known data breach since launch; if one occurs, we will notify affected users within 72 hours per GDPR and CCPA standards.

9. Changes to this policy

When we make material changes to this policy, we will update the effective date at the top of this page and (where reasonably possible) notify users via email. Continued use of the site after a change constitutes acceptance.
