Is a fiberglass entry door worth the premium over steel?

For most US homeowners, yes. Fiberglass entry doors cost roughly 60% more than steel ($1,200–$3,800 vs $700–$1,900 installed) but they don't dent, don't rust, hold paint indefinitely, and offer 4–5× the R-value of bare steel. Steel is the better value only in mild climates with low traffic and where you don't mind repainting every 8–10 years. Fiberglass is also the single highest-ROI exterior upgrade in 2026 — NAR's Remodeling Impact Report puts cost recovery at 100%+ for mid-market homes (the only sub-$5K renovation to exceed full recovery).
